Val Gene Veschio, 82, of Monessen, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully with his family at his side on Wednesday Nov. 4, 2020 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. He was born on February 14, 1938 in N. Charleroi, the son of the late Anthony P. and Elizabeth (Moravec) Veschio. Val lived in Monessen all his life and was a 1955 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church, Knights of Columbus #954, IOOF Charleroi 1030, ISMA, Charleroi Golden Agers, and Chaleroi Elks Lodge 494 where he served as past Exhalted Ruler. He was also an active participant with the PT Cruiser's at the Mariners Hall in Dunlevy. Val retired from Wetterau, formerly Fox Grocery, where he worked in the warehouse. All those who knew Val enjoyed his charming wit and great sense of humor. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Helen (Hreno) Veschio. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in September of this year. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Michael) Pawelec, and son Val Gene (Lorrie) Veschio Jr., both of Monessen; four grandchildren, Autumn, Garrett, and Blake Pawelec, Kendall Veschio; two brothers, Ralph Veschio of Donora, Anthony Veschio of Santa Monica, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and by his fur buddies, Ellie and Twinkie. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William, Bernard, and Timothy Veschio. Friends will be received in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen, on Sunday Nov. 8th from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Monday beginning with a 9:00 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen with Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, Monessen. All those attending the viewing and services are required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing. The number of people permitted in the funeral home will be limited.
