Tressa (DeRose) Spadafore

June 8, 1915 — April 17, 2016

Tressa Spadafore, 100, of Monessen, died Sunday April 17, 2016 in Victoria House III, Monessen. She was born on June 8, 1915 in Monessen, the daughter of the late Vincent DeRose and Constance (Damore) DeRose. Mrs. Spadafore was a life long resident of Monessen, a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, and a member of the former St. Cajetan Church Christian Mothers and the Italian Society of Mutual Aid. After completing the 8th grade, her mother passed away and Mrs. Spadafore quickly learned domestic skills in order to help raise her three brothers. Mrs. Spadafore's family was the love of her life. She enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, embroidering, gardening in her vegetable garden, and writing cards, letters, and notes to her family and friends. She wrote weekly to her three grandchildren while they were attending the U.S. Military Academy and when they were deployed to the Middle East. Surviving are two daughters, Constance J. Sadler of Charleroi, Elaine (John) Zavage of South Park, three grandchildren, Col. John J. (Christina) Zavage; Rtd. Capt. Lisa Z. Geis and husband Lt. Col. John J. Geis, and Rtd. Capt. Julie E. Zavage; eight great grandchildren, Alex, Cassidy, and Bridgette Geis, Daniel, Richard, Lucy, Evie, and MaryAnne Zavage; and by several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Spadafore, three brothers, Michael, Samuel, and Frank DeRose, a son-in-law Barry L. Sadler, her step mother Mary (Sinesa) DeRose, and by an infant brother and sister. Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Saturday April 23, 2016, beginning with a 9:00 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church with Fr. Michael J. Crookston, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum. Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
