Sophia E. Evancho

Sophia E. Evancho, 99, formerly of Monessen, died Wednesday July 15, 2020 in Townview Health & Rehab Center, Canonsburg. She was born on January 3, 1921 in New York, NY, the daughter of the late John Evancho Sr. and Sophia (Biszaha) Evancho. Ms. Evancho was a 1939 graduate of Monessen High School and retired from Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc. having worked as a supervisor in the Histology Lab. She was an active member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. She is survived by brother, Michael Evancho of Mogodore, OH; and by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William C. "Chase" Evancho, and by a sister Anna Zelenak. Private visitation was held followed by Divine Liturgy in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Monessen with Rev. Stephen Wahal officiating. Interment followed in St. Mary's Cemetery, Rostraver Twp.
