Samuel F. Dalfonso, 81, of Monessen, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012 in his home. He was born June 19, 1931 in Monessen, the son of the late Anthony and Assunta (DiDonato) Dalfonso. Sam was a 1949 graduate of Monessen High School, and had served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was retired from the maintenance department at Power Piping where he was a shop journeyman of Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local 354. Since 1994 he worked as an attendant for the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church in Monessen and was an active member of the Epiphany Holy Name Society, having received the Father of the Year Award in 2004. Sam was a member of the Monessen Lions Club having served as Treasurer, and was named 2011 Lion of the Year. He was also a member of Italian American Heritage Society, Epiphany Bowling League, Power Piping Golf League and New Alpine Club Golf League. Sam is survived by his wife of 58 years, Ida (Deluca) Dalfonso; daughter and son-in-law, Sara and Richard Dziak of Monessen; son and daughter-in-law, Joseph A. and Donna Dalfonso of Monessen; five grandchildren, Joseph and Sammy Dalfonso and Jessica, Alison and Jared Dziak; sister, Jean Cornelia of Monessen; sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dalfonso of Monessen; two brothers-in-law, Val DePace of Coraopolis and Frank DeLuca of Pittsburgh; and his canine companion, Layla.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas and James Dalfonso; and two sisters, Florence Carlucci and Elizabeth DePace.Friends will be received on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. and Sunday from 1-3 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen (724-684-8750) where a Blessing Service will be held on Monday at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in Epiphany of Our Lord R.C. Church, 618 Knox Avenue, Monessen, with the Rev. Michael J. Crookston as celebrant. Interment, with Military honors, will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contibutions to Epiphany of Our Lord Church or the Monessen Lions Club.The Monessen Lions Club will meet at the funeral home for services on Sunday at 2:00 p.m.Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
