Rose M. Altomari, 94, of Monessen, beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, peacefully passed away on Sunday July 30, 2017 surrounded by her family.
Rose was born in Monessen, on December 9, 1922, the daughter of the late Cosmo and Elizabeth (Trocchio) Dattis. On August 27, 1942 she married James B. Altomari and together established their home in Monessen, enjoying 42 years of married life.
She was a graduate of Monessen High School and began her career as a beautician after successful completion of Cosmetology courses from Pittsburgh Beauty Academy. She had worked at LaRosa's Salon, DelVerme's and Bunny's. She was true to her faith and was a member of the Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and Court 776, Catholic Daughters of the America's.
Her true passion was the love she devoted to her family. She had great love for her grandchildren and great grandchildren spoiling them with her wonderful home cooked meals and delicious biscotti. She was their greatest fans and gave enduring love to them. She was a fan of all Pittsburgh sports and followed them throughout their season. In her senior years, she was a volunteer at Mon Valley Hospital and is a life member of the Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by her daughter, Anita (David) Planey, grandson James Planey, daughter-in-law JoLouise Altomari, grandson Patsy (Liza) Altomari, great grandchildren Primo, Enzo, Breanna, and Alayna Altomari, and by sister-on-laws, a brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James B. Altomari in 1984, a son Ronald J. Altomari in 1988, and by two brothers, Patsy and Alfred Dattis.
Rose touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to thank the staff at Hallsworth House and Viaquest hospice for their tender care. In celebration of the generosity Rose shared in her lifetime, the family would like those who knew her to do random acts of kindness to others in her memory.
Friends will be received in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 from 3 pm to 7pm. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 2, 2017 beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen, with Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Monessen.
