Robert J. Guzensky, 85, of Monessen, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at his residence.He was born in Monessen on September 16, 1924, the son of the late Anthony and Johanna (Swerzbin) Gorzynski. Bob was a life long resident of Monessen having attended Monessen Schools. He served with the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944 to 1946, taking part in the Invasion of Northern France with the 66th Rainbow Division, and the Army Occupation of Austria with the 42nd Division. Once discharged, he attended Rosedale Tech for Auto-Diesel Mechanic. Bob was a member of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church where he served as an officer on the Parish Board. He was also a member of the former Brotherhood of St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 20 year volunteer for Monessen Meals on Wheels, Ukrainian Club, American Legion Post 28, and the V.F. W. Post 1190, all of Monessen. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked as a blooming mill operator. Bob was an avid fisherman, and was an expert at fly tying.He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen Marie (Fall) Guzensky of Monessen, two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Edmund Luther of Monaca, Nancy and Reuben Farley of Montross, VA, a son, Robert M. Guzensky of Penn Hills, six grandchildren, Matthew, Joshua, and Sarah Luther, Hanna (Daniel) Debord, Laura (Joshua) Lowry, Benjamin Farley, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters Genevieve Panepinto, Violet Plucinski, and Elizabeth Catani, and by a brother Edward Guzensky.Friends will be received on Sunday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Monday Feb. 15, 2010 at11:00 am in St. Nicholas Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 17 Reed Ave. Monessen, (everyone is to meet at the church). Interment will follow in Grandview Cemetery, Monessen.The American Legion Post 28 and V.F.W. Post 1190 will conduct a combined service on Sunday at 4:00 pm in the funeral home.
