Philomena "Phil" Fiorillo, 84, of Monessen, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 in Hallsworth House.She was born in Monessen on May 14, 1927, the daughter of the late John and Assunta (Jannotta) Fiorillo Sr. Ms. Fiorillo was raised and lived her entire life in Monessen, having attended Monessen Elementary Schools and graduating from Monessen High School in 1945.She was employed by the Veterans Administration from June 1945 to August 1947. Ms. Fiorillo began her employment with the Monessen School District in August of 1947 as secretary to the late Thomas F. Preston, Vocational Director. She was transferred to the Senior High School Principals Office, and then to the Administrative Office in 1959. In April of 1974 she was promoted to the position of Administrative/Board Assistant, a position she held until retiring in 1987.Ms. Fiorillo was active in the community, having been a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church, Catholic B.P.W., Rosary Altar Society of the former St. Cajetan Church, Italian Society of Mutual Aid (women), Italian-American Heritage Society, Pennsylvania Association of Retirees, Westmoreland County Assoc. of School Retirees, Monessen Retired Teachers, Monessen Historical Society, and a substitute volunteer for Monessen Meals on Wheels Program. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Antoinette Fiorillo of Monessen, niece, Mary Sue and Anthony Patronella of Houston, TX, nephew, John Joseph "J.J." Fiorillo of Monessen, great nephew and niece, Trey and Rachel Patronella of Houston, TX, great nephew, Joseph Droppa, and by several cousins and many devoted friends.In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, PFC. Joseph M. Fiorillo, who was killed in action on Sept. 26, 1944 in the South Pacific during WWII, John F. Fiorillo, a sister Victoria, a sister-in-law Rosaline Fiorillo, and a nephew Joseph Fiorillo Jr.Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Thursday, November 3, 2011, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church.
