Norman J. Palmer, 89, of Monessen, died Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on October 18, 1918, the son of the late Mary Palmer and stepfather Patsy Santa Columbus. Norman was a life long resident of Monessen and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He was also a member of the Sons of Italy, Italian Society of Mutual Aid, and a 58 year member of the American Legion Post 28.He was a veteran of WWII having served as a sergeant with the U.S. Army.He enjoyed bowling with his friends in the Epiphany Bowling League, and was an avid Monessen Greyhound booster, attending many football and basketball games. He retired from Lee Norse, having worked as a machinist.Norman was the last surviving member of his immediate family, and is survived by many beloved nieces and nephews.In addition to his mother and stepfather, he was preceded in death by his brothers Joseph J. and Philip Palmer, and a sister Mary Bonomo, and by step brothers and sisters, Nunzio, Carlo, Philip, and Sam Columbus, and Mary Salpetri.Friends will be received on Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Friday Sept. 26, 2008 at 10:00 am in the funeral home, with Fr.
