Mildred (Dubecky) Sobchak, 90, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Monessen, died Wednesday, February 9, 2011 in Good Samaritan Hospice House, Wexford.She was born in Monessen on October 20, 1920, the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Dubecky. Mildred resided in Monessen most of her life, and was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church, the former Most Holy Name of Jesus R. C. Church and its Christian Mothers Society, First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association, and Mon Valley Slovak Cultural Society. The youngest of five girls, Milly grew up surrounded by and caring for her twelve nieces and nephews. As a young women she was employed in fine retail dress shops and worked as a floor model for Sax Fifth Ave. in both Pittsburgh and New York. After marrying her late husband, E. Ben Sobchak in 1952, she devoted her life to her family. Mildred took great pleasure in her grandchildren and frequented dance recitals and competitions, school plays and sporting events including softball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and lacrosse. She loved babies and for many years she served as a volunteer baby holder for the Children's Home in Pittsburgh. Over the past four months, she was able to enjoy her first grandchild.She is survived by her two daughters, Melanie (Raymond) Wotkowski of Sidman, Dr. Beverly (Robert) Brozanski of Pittsburgh, four grandchildren, Lauren (Adam) Motchenbaugh, Leah (Rick) Baxter, Brian and Benjamin Broznski, a great grandson, Cole and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters, Anna Sassak, Mary Tomko, Catherine Luksich, and Elizabeth Yadrick. She was the youngest and last surviving member of her immediate family.Friends will be received on Friday Feb. 11, 2011 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, Monessen. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Good Samaritan Hospice House, 146 Neely School, Wexford, PA 15090.
