Michael J. Young Sr.

Michael J. Young Sr., 89, of Monessen, passed away on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 in Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital. He was born on October 15, 1935 in Monessen, the son of the late Joseph and Susan (Caterino) Iacovino Young. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Catholic Church and the Former St. Leonard's Catholic Church. He served his country in the United States Army and was a graduate of Monessen High School. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers Fan and an all around sports fan. He was known as "Coach Young" after coaching for years in the Bronco League and was commissioner for years for the Pony League. He used to tell stories about his time playing baseball for the Brooklyn Dodgers and his trip to Vero Beach Florida for the training camp. He enjoyed his vacations to Myrtle Beach and Las Vegas, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his two sons, Michael J. (Bobbie) Young Jr. of Palm Coast, FL, Mark (Kimberly) Young of Canonsburg; Two Daughters, Debra Young of Monessen, Dana ( Justin) Keller of Rostraver Twp.; Grandchildren, Erica Sitkowski, Cassie (Drew) Barnard, Raina (Quint) Fluharty, Sean (Meredith) Young, Logan Young, Aiden (Fiancée Hannah) Keller; great-grandchildren Aubree, Wade, Brantley, Henley, Kohen and one great-grandchild due in January; cousin, Virginia Dudas. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years Mary Louise (Sobocinski) Young, he was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Friends will be received Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will follow with a blessing service at 12:00 pm, with Rev. Michael Thomas officiating. Interment will be in Grandview Cemetery.
