Michael M. DeCurtis Jr., 91, of Monessen, died on Thursday Feb. 17, 2011 at his residence.He was born on Aug. 8, 1919, the son of the late Michael M. DeCurtis Sr. and Antonia (Monaco) DeCurtis. Mr. DeCurtis was a life long resident of Monessen and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. Mr. DeCurtis was the Chairman of the Compensation Committee for the United Steelworkers of America, Local 1229, and was a delegate to the International Convention of the U.S.W.A. in 1976. He was a member of the Allison Lescanac Post 1190 of the V.F.W., the B.P.O.E. 773, and M.A.R.S., all of Monessen, and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 209 in Belle Vernon. Mr. DeCurtis was a veteran of WWII, having served with the U.S. Army, Company E of the 103rd Infantry in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, receiving four Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart.He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Julia (Turick) DeCurtis, two daughters, Michele Swann of Monessen, Jacqueline DeCurtis-Holder of Pompano Beach, FL, a son and daughter-in-law, Michael M. DeCurtis III and wife Terri of Nottingham Twp., a sister and brother-in-law, Minnie and Ralph Pascarella of Monessen, two grandsons, John Swann and wife Tracy of Monessen, David Swann of Baltimore, MD, a great grandson Tyler Swann, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Frank DeCurtis, a sister Frances "Kakie" Faraci, and a son-in-law, John Swann.Friends will be received on Sunday Feb. 20th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen, (724-684-8750). Funeral services will be held on Monday Feb.21st beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen.The following services will be held on Sunday in the funeral home: Allison Lescanac Post 1190 of the V.F.W. at 7:00 pm, and the Knights of Columbus Council 954 at 7:30 pm.
