Marie Leone Fuoco, 88, died peacefully at Mon Valley Care Center in Carroll Twp. where she had resided since March 2011.
Born Aug. 25, 1925 in Clearfield, she was the daughter of the late Anthony and Lillian Toney Leone. A 1944 graduate of Charleroi High School, she had lived most of her life in North Charleroi and most recently in Monessen.
She worked for a time for Corning Glass in Charleroi and Magura Clothing Factory in Monessen and later at Michael's Fashions in Belle Vernon.
Lifelong friends were drawn to Marie's strong, sensitive, vibrant and opinionated personality and a disarmingly dry wit that was always insightful and often acerbic. A gifted cook, her sweet basil tomato sauce, meatballs, gnocchi, ravioli, wedding soup, pizelles and other Italian specialties were beyond compare.
Her husband, Albert J. Fuoco, preceded her in death in September 2010.
She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church and the Italian Sons & Daughters of America. She was a past member of the Home and Hospital Club of North Charleroi, Italian-American Heritage Society and the Croatian Club, both of Monessen.
She is survived by two sons, Michael A. (Linda) Fuoco of Mt. Lebanon and Marco A. (Jennifer) Fuoco of Woodland, CA; two grandchildren, Dante Anthony Fuoco of New Orleans, LA and Maria M. Fuoco of Berkeley, CA; the "daughter she never had," Judy Michael McCurry of Carroll Twp.; her godson and nephew, Robert Fuoco of Monessen; and many nieces and nephews.
At Marie's request, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass on Monday December 30, 2013, 10:00 am, at Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 618 Knox Ave. Monessen.
