Louis Gigliotti Jr., 94, of Monessen, passed away peacefully at Hallsworth House on April 6, 2017. Born on April 22, 1922 in Nicastro, Italy, the son of the late Luigi and Maria Perri Gigliotti. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Dorothy (Palm) Gigliotti, and brothers Antonio, Angelo, Frank, and Frederick Gigliotti. He was an employee of the United States Postal service in Milwaukee, WI prior to retiring, and moved back to his hometown of Monessen where he was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church. He was a veteran of the second world war serving in the South Pacific Theater seeing combat action as a member of the famed "Bushmasters" (Company "C" Battalion of the 158th Infantry Regiment) in Australia, New Guinea, Panama Canal and Luzon. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground combat against the armed enemy during the campaigns of the Asiatic-Pacific Theaters of Operation. He enjoyed dancing with his wife to the sounds of the "Big Bands" and would travel around Pennsylvania to attend Big Band performances. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1190 and the Italian Society of Mutual Aid, both of Monessen. His hobbies were reading history books and retained a tremendous knowledge of world history. He could always be seen building walls, tearing them down and rebuilding them, sewing and doing mending for others. Those left to mourn his passing are nephews, Lou (Judi) Gigliotti, Tony (Lisa) Gigliotti of Florida, Mary (Robert) Kapty, Gloria (Nick) Folino, Cathy (Greg) Carroto, Frank (Kathy) Gigliotti, Rev. Vincent Gigliotti, Ron Gigliotti, Fred (Carm) Gigliotti, Anna (Bob) Noviello, Lisa (John) Krempasky, Joe (Cindy) Gigliotti, Michael (Janice) Gigliotti; and by numerous great nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Sunday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Monday beginning with a 12:00 pm Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 12:30 pm Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, with Fr. Vincent Gigliotti officiating.
