Leonard G. Sassak Sr., 58, of Monessen, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family.He was born in N. Charleroi on Nov. 12, 1954, the son of the late John S. and Mary J. (Nuzzaci) Sassak. Lenny was a lifelong resident of Monessen having attended Monessen Catholic School and graduating from Mon Valley Catholic High School in 1972.He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and formerly served as assistant scout master for Troop 1561, Boy Scouts of America. He retired with 37 years of service from the Clairton Works of U.S.X. having worked in the coking department.He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Charlotte "Shawnee" Povich Sassak, two sons, Leonard G. Sassak Jr. and Robert Sassak, both of Monessen, a sister, Cecelia Ann Sassak of Monessen, three brothers and sisters-in-law, John Thomas "JT" and Patty Sassak, Mark S. and Donna Sassak, all of Monessen, Timothy J. and Linda Sassak of Marienville, PA, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, April Lynn Sassak.Friends will be received in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen, on Friday, March 1, 2013 from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2013, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church. Interment will follow in Holy Name Cemetery, Monessen.The Knights of Columbus # 954 will conduct a prayer service on Friday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
