Lawrence Joseph DeLuca, 86, of Monessen, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen, on July 27, 1920, the son of the late Ernest and Rose Nudo DeLuca.Mr. DeLuca was a life long resident of Monessen, a 1937 graduate of Monessen High School, and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked in the fabric department and the BOF. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army in Co. D, 28th Infantry Division, 110th Regiment. He fought from Normandy to the Battle of the Bulge, having been captured during the battle. He was a prisoner of war in a German Prison Camp from Dec. of 1944 until May of 1945. He was a member of the American Legion Post 28 in Monessen.He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Rose Marie and Terry Miller of Uniontown, two grandsons, Christopher Miller and wife Melinda, and Timothy Miller, all of Uniontown, two sisters and a brother-in-law, Louise and Frank Ghinassi of Monessen, Evelyn Dibiero of State College, a dear friend, Norma Chapasko of Charleroi, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jane Chunkala DeLuca, two brothers, John and Joseph DeLuca, and by a sister Mary Como.Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home, Inc. 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday April 21, 2007, begining with a 9:30 AM Blessing at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. The American Legion Post 28 will conduct services for thier fallen comrade on Friday at 7:15 PM in the funeral home.
