Joseph J. Vizza, 87, of Monessen, passed away on Friday September 13, 2019 in Hallsworth House.
He was born on March 24, 1932 in Monessen, the son of the late Emilio and Tressa (Zimmaro) Vizza.
Joe was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1952 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and its Holy Name Society, a life member of Sons of Italy, a life member of the Italian Society of Mutual Aid, and a former member of the Ozarks baseball team. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was a member of Post 659 North Belle Vernon American Legion.
Joe was retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., where he worked as a electrician in the blooming mill from 1951 to 1987. Following his retirement he continued to work as a Monessen School Crossing Guard and for Burns International Security. He also donated his time and talent by providing crafts, candies, and cookies to the local Catholic schools.
He is survived by two daughters, Teresa (Paul) Riskey of Venetia, Jennifer (Robert) Porter of Jefferson Hills; a brother, Frank (Becky Wilson) Vizza of Belle Vernon; a sister, Rosalie Nicksich of Monessen; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Vizza; two brothers-in-law, Ralph (Marcella) Niccolai, Harry (Bonnie) Niccolai; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Joann (Niccolai) Vizza, and by a brother Alfred Vizza.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen.
Services will be held on Wednesday beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen, with Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Belle Vernon Cemetery. The family is grateful to the staff of Hallsworth House and OSPTA Hospice for their care and compassion.
