Joseph "Speed" Alvarez Jr., 89, of Carroll Twp., passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday July 15, 2018. He was born on May 23, 1929 in Ponte Vedra, Spain, the son of the late Jose and Adela (Perez) Alvarez. Joe grew up in Monessen and was a 1946 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a plumber by trade and co-owned and operated Alvarez & Mancuso General Contracting. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Monessen, Mon Valley Builders Association, and Franco Belgium Beneficial Society. Joe enjoyed spending time out doors, either in his garden or tending to his flowers. He loved to play poker and traveling with his late wife Mary. Surviving are his four children, Joseph (Theresa) Alvarez III, Adella (Scott) Board, Laura (Jack) Emricko, and Donna Marie (James) Manges, all of Monongahela; a brother, Antonio "Tony" (Joyce) Alvarez of Belle Vernon; two sisters, Adela E. Alvarez of Monessen, Gloria Vasunda of Monongahela; sister-in-law, Lena Alvarez of Monessen; thirteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Mary Mancuso Alvarez in 2007, an infant daughter, a daughter Mary Jo Garbart, a brother Herman Alvarez, and a sister Marie Mull. Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 pm and from 6 to 8 pm in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Wednesday beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church, 44 Pennsylvania Blvd. Monessen, with Rev.
