John Andrew Gombos, 78, of Monessen, died Friday, March 30, 2007 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on November 30, 1928, the son of the late John and Susan Hritz Gombos. Mr. Gombos was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1946 gradute of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church and its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus Council 954, and the Italian-American Heritage Society. He was retired from Consol Energy having worked as a chemical operator in the research department. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served with Co D Staff Battalion GHQ in Japan.He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Erminia D'Annibale Gombos, a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald John and Edna Gombos of Elizabethtown, KY, two grandsons, Andrew David Gombos and Stephanie, and Benjamin Clark Gombos, all of Elizabethtown, KY, three sisters, Margaret Kelemen, Irene Biszaha, and Eleanor Lauteri and husband Frank, all of Monessen, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary von Glahn, Anne Lasky, and Elizabeth Gombos, and by two brothers Robert and Harry Gombos.Friends will be received on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home, Inc. 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Wednesday April 4, 2007, beginning with a 9:30 AM Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 AM Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen.The Knights of Columbus Council 954 will conduct services on Tuesday at 8 PM in the funeral home.
