Irene E. (Pehonsky) Imbrogno

May 20, 1925 — September 15, 2016

Irene Eleanor Imbrogno, 91, of Belle Vernon, passed away on September 15, 2016. A native of Monessen, she was born on May 20, 1925, the youngest daughter of John and Elizabeth (Hertnick) Pehonsky After graduating from Monessen High School, she worked as a "mail girl in the mill," where she caught the eye of her dearest love, John "Midnite" Imbrogno, a young man who recently returned from serving in the Second World War, and who quickly insisted that Irene become his lifelong sweetheart. A devout parishioner of St. Sebastian Church, Irene never missed the opportunity to thank the Lord Jesus for the blessings which came from her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and array of cherished nieces, nephews, and friends. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and a former member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and St. Cajetan Christian Mothers. After the sudden passing of her beloved husband in 1994, Irene developed a passion for collecting angel dolls and figurines, perhaps in preparation for the moment she, too, would be called to join the Lord. In her passing from this world, she joins her parents, husband, oldest daughter, Nancy Imbrogno Otis, and numerous dear friends and relatives in Heaven. Her surviving children and their spouses, Patricia Imbrogno and John Swallow of Belle Vernon; John Imbrogno of Belle Vernon; Gary and Cynthia Imbrogno of Pittsburgh; and Jeffrey and Sally Imbrogno of Charleroi will take comfort in the blessing of her memory. She will be remembered by her grandchildren, Rebecca (C.J.), Mark (Esther), Joshua (Taylor), Christopher, and Zachary as a devoted grandmother and bingo lover, for her whoopie pies, and strategically placing red lipstick kisses on all of their cheeks. Together, we will tell her story to her great-grandchildren, Sofia and Giuliana--as well as two baby angels who will arrive in the weeks and months ahead--of her laughter and sweet spirit, the taste of her halupkis and famous fruit salads, her collection of babushkas, and her unconditional love. Friends will be received on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 6:00 to 8:00 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue, Monessen. Services will be held on Monday beginning with a 9:15 am Blessing service in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, 801 Broad Ave. Belle Vernon, with Rev. Msgr. Roger A. Statnick officiating. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to ARC of Fayette County, 80 Old New Salem Rd. Uniontown, PA 15401. Condolences accepted for the family at www.dalfonso-billick.com.
