Helen R. (Hreno) Veschio, 81, of Monessen, passed away peacefully with her family at her side, following a brief illness on Tuesday Oct. 19, 2021, in Jefferson Hospital. She was born on August 14, 1940 in N. Charleroi, the daughter of the late John and Mary (Hudi) Hreno. Helen was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1958 graduate of Monessen High School. She attended Douglas Business School and worked as a senior administrative assistant for Mellon Bank at various locations. She was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord Church and its Epiphany Ladies, F.C.S.L.A., Red Hat Society, Charleroi Golden Ager's, an active participant with the P.T. Crusiers at the Mariners Hall in Dunlevy, and enjoyed going out to dinner with her classmates. For years, she and late husband Val were instrumental in making sure everyone had a great time at many functions at the Charleroi Elks Lodge #494. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt who was loved by all her knew her. Helen was noted for her artistic abilities when planning events, and enjoyed cooking and baking so she could share her recipes with everyone. Friends of Helen knew she was good hearted, kind, and generous to all. Surviving are her daughter, Cindy (Michael) Pawelec of Monessen; son Val Gene (Lorrie) Veschio Jr. of Monessen; grandchildren, Autumn, Garrett, and Blake Pawelec, Kendall Veschio; and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Val Gene Veschio, two brothers, Michael and John Hreno, the by three sisters, Anne Haschets, Mary Pavlik, and Susan Urko. Friends will be received in Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. & Cremation Services, 441 Reed Ave. Monessen, on Friday from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm. Services will be held on Saturday beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Church with Rev. Michael J. Crookston officiating. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery. EVERYONE ATTENDING THE VISITATION AND FUNERAL ARE KINDLY ASKED TO WEAR A MASK.
