George Rodgers Jr., 73, of Monessen, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on May 10, 1937, the son of the late George Rodgers Sr. and Alberta (Layhue) Rodgers. George was a life long resident of Monessen, and a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from 1954 until 1978 and spent a tour in Vietnam as a combat engineer. George was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He is survived by two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joann and Phil Heard of Monessen, Lena and Victor Orvac of Charleroi, a brother-in-law William Magone of Monessen, a sister-in-law Patty Rodgers of Monessen, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Paula (Zaglauer) Rodgers, a brother Joseph Rodgers, and by a sister Shirley Magone.Friends will be received in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen (724-684-8750), on Monday March 21st from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, time of the service with Fr. David J. Nazimek presiding. Entombment will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery Mausoleum, Carroll Twp.
