Bernard F. "Bernie" Veschio, 83, of Monessen, died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at his residence with his family at his side.He was born in Monessen on December 3, 1927, the son of the late Anthony and Elizabeth (Moravec) Veschio. Bernie was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1945 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church, Epiphany Chior, and the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates. Bernie had worked for the former John G. Check Furniture Company in Monessen and the United Mine Workers at Bethenergy Mines. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Navy as a aviation machinist.Bernie enjoyed life to its fullest and loved telling jokes. He and his long time companion Rusty Denne, loved to dance and sing, especially enjoying Big Band Music and Ballroom dancing.He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Kelly Taylor of Monessen, a son and daughter-in-law, B. J. and Brenda Veschio of Rostraver Twp., grandson, Gregory Cunningham of Monessen, four brothers, Ralph (Dolores) Veschio of Donora, Tony Veschio of Santa Monica, CA, Val Gene (Helen) Veschio of Monessen, Tim (Martha) Veschio of Tampa, FL, a sister-in-law, Irene Veschio of Belle Vernon, his companion, Rusty Denne of Clairton, and by numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Betty Jean (Broggi) Veschio, and by a brother William Veschio.Friends will be received on Thursday March 24th from 6 to 8 pm, and Friday March 25th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday, March 26th, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Monongahela Cemetery.The Knights of Columbus Council 954 will conduct a prayer service on Thursday at 7:00 pm, and the Mid Mon Valley Shipmates will conduct a Two Bell Ceremony on Friday at 7:00 pm.
