Anthony S. "Pasta" Merando, 83, of Monessen, died Wednesday, September 12, 2007 in Meadowcrest Nursing Center, Bethel Park.He was born in Monessen on January 25, 1924, the son of the late Sam and Mary Leone Merando.Mr. Merando was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1943 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church and its Holy Name Society, Knight of Columbus Council 954, Belle Vernon McDonalds Morning Coffee Club, and served as an usher at the former St. Cajetan Church for over 25 years. He was an avid golfer, and a member of the Belle Vernon Knights of Columbus Golf League.Mr. Merando retired in 1986 from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, having worked in the electrical department. He was a veteran of WW II , having served with the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Wasp in the Phillipines during the Pacific Theater.He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Eleanor Brody Merando, a daughter and son-in-law, Candy Merando and Wayne Toth of Jefferson Hills, and by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Marie Litterini and a brother Louis "Jutsie" Merando. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.Friends will be received on Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home, Inc. 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday Sept. 15, 2007, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Entombment will follow in Belle Vernon Cemetery Mausoleum. The Knights of Columbus Coucil 954 will conduct a prayer service on Friday at 8:00 pm in the funeral home.
