Anthony Gido, 83, of Monessen, died Friday, December 19, 2008 in Adult Assisted Living Inc., Dunlevy.He was born in Monessen on January 30, 1925, the son of the late John and Helen Shimko Gido. Mr. Gido resided in Monessen all his life and was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. He was a former member of St. Mary's Golf League, and an avid hunter. He retired from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel, where he worked as a crameman and with the labor gang. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Navy as a Torpedoman's Mate Third Class on the USS Tambor and the USS Hammerhead during the Asiatic Pacific Theater.He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, John F. and Kim Gido of Belle Vernon, two daughters and sons-in-law, Dianne and Dennis Naccarato and Anita and Edward Holmes all of Monessen, six grandchildren, Georgina Steedle and husband Regis of Belle Vernon, Gina Naccarato of Monessen, Leann Bujdos and husband Brad of Belle Vernon, Nicole Hawkins and husband Antwann of Walldorf, MD, John A. Gido and fianc Amber Dongilli of Belle Vernon, Erica Jones and husband Jeffrey of Monessen, six great-grandchildren, Krysta and Ashton Steedle, Bradley and Rainey Bujdos, Analecia Hawkins, and Kendra Jones, two sisters, Irene Growney of Medford Lakes, NJ, Evelyn Timko and husband Bernard of Balitmore, MD, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Henrietta Theresa (Francia) Gido, two brothers, Thomas and Robert Gido, and by four sisters, Bertha Oravec, Elizabeth Scarano, and Dorothy and Katherine Gido.Friends will be received on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750). Services will be held on Tuesday Dec. 23, 2008, beginning with a 9:30 am Panachida at the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Divine Liturgy in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in Grandview Cemetery Mausoleum, Monessen. A parish rosary will be recited on Monday at 2:00pm in the funeral home, followed by Services for the Dead at 2:30 pm.
