Alfred M. Tarquinio, 87, of Monessen, died Monday, November 19, 2007 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on May 7, 1920, the son of the late Eugene and Josephine Mallino Tarquinio. He was a 1939 graduate of Monessen High School and a life long resident of Monessen. Mr. Tarquinio was a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and looked upon as a father figure to some and a genuine friend to many. He owned and operated Al's Market in Monessen for over 50 years along with his parents, and through his generosity and kindness, gained numerous friends throughout the community. In addition to operating the market, he also worked for the Monessen Southwestern Railroad as a diesel mechanic. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Navy on a sub chaser throughout the Philippines. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church and its Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 28, V.F.W. Post 1190, Belgium Club of Charleroi, and was a former member of the Sons of Italy, Italian Society of Mutual Aid, and the K of C #954 in Monessen. Mr. Tarquinio had also served as Board Treasurer of the former United Cause Medical Centers Inc. He is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Joseph and Rose Tarquinio of Harbor Creek, PA, Eugene and Tami Tarquinio of Long Branch, Michael and Alison Tarquinio of Harbor Creek, PA, Paul and Gina Tarquinio of Fallowfield Twp., a sister and brother-in-law, Rose Marie "Babes" and Joseph Schalberger of Grayslake, IL, a sister-in-law, Frances Tarquinio of Belle Vernon, ten grandchildren, Lisa Stupica and husband Donald, Michell Zajac and husband Jeff, Geno, Josephine, Vincent, Melissa, Brandon, Mario, Alicia, and Santino Tarquinio, two great grandchildren, Schuyler and Elisabeth Stupica, and by numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Ida Mascetta Tarquinio, three sisters, Mamie Costa, Margaret Doerr, and Lola Faber, and a brother Joseph Tarquinio.Friends will be received on Friday Nov. 23rd from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Saturday Nov. 24, 2007, beginning with a 9:00 AM Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 AM Funeral Mass in the Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church. Interment will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora. The VFW Post 1190 and the American Legion Post 28 will conduct services at 6:15 pm Friday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions to: Maria House Project, Attn: Joseph Tarquinio, Administrator, 1218 French St. Erie, PA 16501.
