Alfred Dattis, 91, of Belle Vernon, died Friday, November 11, 2011 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on October 28, 1920, the son of the late Cosmos and Elizabeth (Trocchio) Dattis. Mr. Dattis grew up in Monessen, was a graduate of Monessen High School, and had worked at the former Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He had also worked for the City of Monessen as a mechanic for many years, and owned and operated Dattis Tire in Monessen along with his brother Patsy. Later in life he and his wife owned and operated the Magnolia Restaurant and Motel in Chautauqua, NY. He was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army.He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Naoma (McLain) Dattis, a daughter and son-in-law; Nancy (Moyer) and Greg Lyons of Belle Vernon, a sister, Rose Altomari of Monessen, five grandchildren; Kelly (Dudgeon) and Jim Harvey of Belle Vernon, Danielle Olszewski of Las Vegas, NV, Joseph Olszewski III of Belle Vernon, Kady (Lyons) and Charles Bowman of Parkersburg, WV, Chelsea Lyons of Parkersburg, WV, nine great grandchildren; Sonya Harvey, Bill and Kevin Braitenback, Dante and Sienna Koch, Rachel, Charlie, and Summer Bowman, River Lyons, a great great granddaughter, Grace Arthur, three nieces, Anita (David) Planey of Monessen, Jo Louise (Ken) Sealy of Monessen, and Patty Dattis, three great nephews; Patsy "PJ" (Liza) Altomari and Jim Planey, all of Monessen, Robbie Dattis of Donora, a great great nephew Primo Altomari, and by several other nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Patsy Dattis, a brother-in-law James Altomari, and by two nephews, Ronald Altomari and Wayne Dattis.Friends will be received on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services, 441 Reed Avenue Monessen, (724-684-8750). Services will be held on Monday at 10:00 am in the funeral home with Fr. David J. Nazimek officiating.
