Frank Alessio, 91, of Monessen, died Friday, June 18, 2010 in Monongahela Valley Hospital Inc.He was born in Monessen on April 1, 1919, the son of the late Santo and Maria (Setting) Alessio. Frank was a life long resident of Monessen and a 1937 graduate of Monessen High School. He was a member of Epiphany of Our Lord R. C. Church and a former member of N.I.P.A., Sons of Italy, Club 20, Ninth Street Workman's Club, and the Hilltop Firemen's Club.. He retired in 1982 with 45 years of service from the Monessen Plant of Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp., having worked in the pipe shop. Mr. Alessio was a veteran of WW II, having served with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 with Company A 9th Medical Battalion. He served in Sicily, Africa, Germany, Belgium, England, France, and Monaco French Rivera.He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Santo R. and Linda Alessio and Frank and Diane Alessio, all of Belle Vernon, five grandchildren; Aaron Alessio and fiancé Alyson of Pittsburgh, Brian Alessio and fiancé Heather of Belle Vernon, Chad Alessio and fiancé Lyndsey of Greensburg, Ashley Alessio and fiancé Dr. Matthew Holtzman of Pittsburgh, Alaina Alessio and fiancé Jeremy Bilsky of Belle Vernon, great grandson, Adian Alessio, sister-in-law, Helen Alessio of Monessen, and by several nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years Stella V. (Gurzynski) Alessio, two brothers, Fred and Albert Alessio, a sister Lena Perok, and by many nieces and nephews.Friends will be received on Saturday from 6 to 8 pm, and on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm. in the Dalfonso-Billick Funeral Home Inc. and Cremation Services 441 Reed Avenue Monessen (724-684-8750).Services will be held on Monday, June 21, 2010, beginning with a 9:30 am Blessing in the funeral home, followed by a 10:00 am Funeral Mass in Epiphany of Our Lord Roman Catholic Church.
